The idea for Harradine’s Country didn’t appear overnight. It grew slowly, over months of research, planning, and a growing frustration with how difficult it had become to find well-made, thoughtfully designed women's country clothing that truly reflected British values and craftsmanship.
In the summer of 2025, I finally took the step from idea to action. By combining my background in marketing with a long-standing love of the British countryside and admiration for homegrown brands, I set out to build a British country clothing retail business with purpose at its heart.
Harradine’s Country exists to champion independent makers, celebrate British craftsmanship, and offer timeless pieces designed to be worn, loved, and kept - not replaced each season.
Since those early days, Harradine’s Country has grown from an idea into a living, evolving business, which is shaped as much by the people who support it as by the values it was built on.

Why British Country Style Matters to Me
To me, British country style is not just about looks. It's also about lifestyle, comfort, authenticity and practicality. Crucially, I believe that British country style is at its very best when it is designed and made here in the UK, using traceable British materials like wool, feathers, and leather.
When we achieve this, our heritage style actually gives back to our rural British communities - from the farmers and landowners who nurture the landscape, to family-owned factories preserving traditional skills and livelihoods.
It also means supporting the small, independent, artisan brands who lovingly design and craft our most loved pieces. These are the brands that we haven’t all heard of. The ones who make unique, timeless pieces, right here in the UK. The ones who don’t have a fancy website, a professional marketing department, or a massive budget.
The Problem I Saw in the Market
I know many of us want to shop independent and buy British. However, it can be so hard to know what's really from an independent British business, or what's really made here in the UK. So many times, I've felt that disappointment on "lifting the label" - especially when shopping with some of my favourite country style brands.
Acrylic and polyester, disappointing quality, poorly fitting and made far, far away. It felt like "country style" without the substance - taking the heritage vibes (and the price tag) and stripping out everything that made Great British country style great.
That's how the idea for a country womenswear retail business that specialises in British-made products designed by independent British brands came to me.
I started Harradine's Country to help women who love timeless British country style to shop independent and buy British with confidence. We are on a mission to bring back genuine British-made country style that supports and gives back to the rural economy and the landscapes that inspire it.
Why I’m Starting with British Brands (and Where I'm Going)
My vision for Harradine’s Country is to stock 100% British-made clothing by 2030. However, it’s going to be a challenge, and it’s going to take time. We started with a commitment of 50%, rising to 60% by the end of 2026.
Lots of the bigger, better-known country clothing brands make some or all of their products abroad. This is often because large-scale manufacturing in the UK is either economically unviable, or unavailable. I get that, which is why I'm stocking some products that are manufactured outside the UK, provided they are designed by an independent British brand, and the quality is right.
Every product on our website has its country of origin clearly marked, and all of our British-made pieces can be found in our British-made country clothing collection.
I am focused on stocking unique pieces designed and made by small, independent brands. Many of these brands will be less well known, and I know I will have to work to give them a bigger platform. Fortunately, my background as a small business marketing consultant means I have experience in getting independent brands found online.
Finally, I prioritise pieces that are made with natural, traceable, British-sourced materials. Some examples include our women's bridle leather belts - made with traceable English bridle leather - and our feather brooches, hat pins and boot tassels - handmade using game feathers from licensed shoots that would otherwise go to waste.
If you’re an independent, British brand and you are interested in being stocked in Harradine’s Country, I’d love to hear from you. Please complete my suppliers' form to register your interest.
