Autumn Style Guide

|Rhiannon Harradine

Autumn signals a change - in the temperature, the landscape, and the traditions so many of us enjoy. I love dressing for autumn - as soon as the nights begin to draw in, I'm digging out my tweeds and getting ready for national hunt season, long walks through fallen leaves, and snuggling on the sofa with a hot chocolate at the end of the day.

Our Autumn Style Ideas

Harradine's Country opened for the very first time on 8th September 2025, so our opening collection was also a celebration of British autumnal country style. Tweed, wool and feathers are all here for the season, and we have so many pieces that work wonderfully together. So, for some autumn country style ideas (featuring some picks from our collection), read on.

For a Day at the Races

For national hunt racing, you really can't go wrong with tweed. The matching Heyford tweed jacket and Adderbury tweed skirt by English Nettle make an exquisite tweed set that is stylish and unique. The contrast trim gives this tweed a subtle, classy point of interest, and the front and rear darts on the skirt give it a really flattering fit.

Heels aren't always ideal when you're standing for long periods and walking between the parade ring and the winning post. If you're like me and find heels a bit of a pain in the back (if you know, you know) then I'd advise a comfortable pair of flat shoes or boots. Tan or brown long boots work really nicely with tweed, and they'll look even better when you clip on a pair of these feather boot tassels

Of course, if you're lucky enough to have a seat in hospitality or owners & trainers, then you need not worry so much about practical footwear.

If you really want to up your feather game, then pair your boot tassels with a feather brooch pin and feather hat pin - both of which are handmade in the Scottish borders by Fine Feathers Design.

For Long Country Walks

Layers, layers, layers. Autumn brings with it such changeable weather. It can be really quite warm and sunny one minute, then cold, wet, and windy the next. So, practical footwear and a jacket that can go over a shirt or jumper are essential.

The Heyford tweed jacket is ideal for layering - it's fitted enough to look really smart over just a shirt or blouse, but it can also work when layered over a jumper.

A good pair of socks is an underestimated essential of a long and comfortable walk in the great outdoors. With these alpaca wool socks, you can say goodbye to thin, rough, sweaty synthetic socks and hello to super soft, moisture-wicking and durable socks that are fit for active rural living.

For When You're in the Office

If you're looking for smart office-ready attire that allows you to express yourself, then these country shirts are easy to pair with tailored trousers. The pop of colour offered by the navy equestrian shirt and the red horse print shirt by Hartwell will brighten up an otherwise monochrome suit.

For When You're Out of Office

After a day's work - or a day in the countryside - it's nice to be able to put your feet up. These alpaca wool bed socks will do the trick, with their super soft feel and moisture-wicking properties, they'll have your feet feeling warm, cosy and comfortable in no time.

For When You're in Town

Finally, we all need a versatile town-to-country outfit that will look and feel great. Boots, skinny jeans, and a bright and comfortable country shirt are easy to throw together when you're heading out and about.

For a go-to accessory that is timeless, durable, authentic and beautiful, look no further than this skinny belt by Filly & Fox. Available in six natural shades, from light tan to black, this handmade leather belt will elevate and complete almost any outfit.
